Hello. I have uploaded 3 related pages. Please refer to the scans. Was it sent from Reggio or Fifa?

Hi Jin, the letter was sent from "Fara Sabina", a little town in Rieti department. The linear postmark is simply "Fara", but the town is the same. The letter was addressed to Civita Castellana, another little town in Viterbo department. So, probably, the other linear postmark "Poggio Mirteto" (another little town in Rieti department) is for transit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fara_in_Sabina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poggio_Mirteto The letter was shipped by a churchman, seems as "Guido Guidobaldi", and he writes to the Bishop of Civita Castellana about the illness of his Confessor. In the lands of Fara Sabina there is a great abbey, the Abbey of Farfa, so the letter could be shipped from this abbey, and so the oval postmark could depict San Lorenzo Siro, the fundator of the abbey. At the same time, the oval postmark could depict the family of "Guidobaldi", even if it's more probable.. I think that it's something linked to the church. |

Thank you very much. Do these two place names have any thematic meaning or story? Fara Poggio Mirteto |

Hi Jin, you can use Google to translate the italian versions on Wikipedia, a bit more complete than english versions: - Fara Sabina -> http://translate.google.it/translate?u= ... t&ie=UTF-8 - Poggio Mirteto -> http://translate.google.it/translate?u= ... t&ie=UTF-8 |
