Hello, I try to find some informations on this "fancy" cancellation from Brazil illustrated with a bird ? Has anybody seen such item ? or a book on such cancellations ? Thanks. Regards Jean

Hi Jean, it seems an eagle, or a similar bird. I have no idea if this image could be referred to this fancy cancellation, however the blason (and the flag) of the brazilian state "Santa Catarina" (where is located the town of Laguna) has an eagle in the center: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Blaso ... tarina.svg The fancy cancellations were used in the USA more than in other countries, so searching any book or article on these marks used in Brazil is more difficult. Even if this message is not strictly related to our friend's question, I'd like to underline that Laguna is the birth town of Anita Garibaldi. As you can see from this web page: http://www.laguna.sc.gov.br/paginas.php ... -de-laguna on 1839 Giuseppe Garibaldi was one of the conqueror of the Republica Catarinense.
