I am interested in the new cancellation from Crespina with 2 civette.
Also wanted detailed thematic information about this cancel.
Is there anyone who can send me this one?

Hi Koenraad, "nidiaceo" means "child bird", "young bird", so the cancellation shows two young owls. In the town of Crespina (near Pisa, in Tuscany), each year, there is an exhibitions of birds, owls too, with a singing competition. Grazie Marco - your explanation makes the cancel thematically even more interesting. It's the first one with young Little Owls. So if anyone could find this one for me, thanks a lot! P.S. Koenraad, for the precision, the "civetta" is the type of owl called screech-owl (the one sacred to Athena, for doing mythological references). Michele |

Michele Sorry Michele, but that's not a Screech-Owl (genus Megascops)- these are restricted to the Americas. This is the Little Owl or Athene noctua, as shown on the cancel of Crespina of 2002. Hi Koenraad, good news from my friend: he has found two covers with 2008 cancel; he will give me the covers at Montecatini, on saturday. Please, let me know your shipping address by private message. At Montecatini there will be a little exchange day, so I will search for you the older cancels.

My apologies Koenraad: the dictionary I used to translate "civetta" is not an ornithological one, and must have an American bias, so it gives screech owl as translation. Anyway the point I was trying to make is that we translate owl as gufo, so to me calling also the civetta as owl was not sounding correct. Michele |

Dear Koenraad, again good news; in a my box I have found the 2006 cancel, surely sent to me by the same friend living in Pisa. As you can see, the cover is really shipped. Hi Koenraad, just back home from Montecatini. There, I met my friend who gave me the cover with 2008 cancel. Then, I have found 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2007 cancels, so with the 2006 one above shown the unique missing is the 2005 one. Adding information: I have bought the 2001-2007 cancels from the same man who drafted the 2008 cancel, Saverio Bocelli; instead, the 2007 one was created by his wife. In next days they will shipped to Belgium

That's really nice Marco And also interesting to know who designed the cancels. The 2007 one is thematically interesting because it seems to be after a painting of Albrecht Dürer. Many of his paintings already on stamps (and postal stationary), but not the one of Little Owl.
